Thank you for visiting the Academic Resource Center's Web page. The ARC provides resources for students by:
- Study Groups
- Peer Tutoring
- Academic Assistance
- Review Sessions
- Knowledge Workshops
Feel free to visit us in person and to learn more about this wonderful campus resource. The Academic Resource Center is located on the first floor in McEwen, Room 113.
The main objective of the Academic Resource Center is to assist students in improving their academic skills, thus helping them to achieve their academic goals.
The use of the Academic Resource Center is free for all Queens students, and most definitely will enhance your college experience and help you strive for excellence. The ARC cultivates the Queens motto of Non ministrari sed ministrare — "Not to be served, but to serve."
Peer Tutoring at Queens takes two forms: One-on-One Appointments and Drop-In Sessions
One-on-One Appointments are scheduled, half-hour peer tutoring sessions. These occur during the day and in the Academic Resource Center, McEwen 113. You can sign up for an appointment in advance and show up when you have been scheduled. You should have appropriate materials and prepared questions for your appointment. To view tutor schedules, please visit the ARC.
Drop-In Sessions are peer tutoring sessions that occur in the late afternoon or evening and in various places on campus. You do not need an appointment to attend a Drop-In Session; but you should be prepared with questions and appropriate materials. Peer tutors will be available during this time to help you; however, this is not a guaranteed private appointment, so expect a group setting.
The Academic Resource Center is staffed with reliable and outstanding faculty members and student tutors and is managed by the Associate Dean of CAS.
Tutoring appointments are made by signing up on the bulletin board at the front of the Academic Resource Center, just inside the door on the left. If your topic of choice is not offered, please let the Writing Lab faculty know of your requested area of coverage by e-mailing us or calling 704 688-2765.
If you are a graduate student who needs writing help, please call Jenn Goddu at 704 688-2765 before signing up for a Writing Center appointment.
Writing Center faculty Jenn Goddu is available for Writing and Basic Skills tutoring on:
